Step 8 of 12 · 1 to 3 days

Pay earnest money and open escrow

Once your offer is accepted, you pay the earnest money deposit into escrow and the clock starts on your contingencies.

Why it matters

Wire fraud targeting home buyers is common. Criminals send fake wiring instructions that look like they come from your title company.

What to do

  1. Get wiring instructions in person or by calling a number you found yourself, never from an email alone.
  2. Put every contingency deadline in your calendar.
  3. Book the inspection straight away.
  4. Send your lender the signed contract.
